Project Objectives:

When international book publisher Weldon Owen wanted to take the successful Investigate literacy series of educational books developed for Scholastic US and turn them into a series of interactive CD's, they approached 3RD sense.

Outcomes Achieved:

Weldon Owen wanted something above and beyond just a simple reproduction of the book on CD. They wanted to showcase just how digital content could be effectively used in the classroom to promote fun learning. With the help of 3RD sense, the Investigate series came to life.

In addition to content found in the book, the CD also included:

Interactive activities such as matching and sorting games, word and picture puzzles, drag and drop labelling and many more  

Video clips and animations

Audio files accompanying the text, so that the book could be listened too as well as read

Detailed information pop-ups

An on-demand glossary system allowing users to look up definitions on every page

Each title was then created to play on both Windows and Mac computers, and providing the user with the choice of either playing directly from the CD or downloading the Title to the computer’s hard-drive.

This series of CD’s from Weldon Owen and 3RD sense help provide educators with an advanced interactive tool for helping children learn. This project showcases just how effective it can be when technology is applied correctly to educational resources.
